Reliance RCPL enters pet-care market with ‘Waggies’

Reliance Consumer Products Ltd. (RCPL) has formally entered India’s pet-care space with the launch of Waggies, a new pet-food brand aimed at capitalising on the rising demand for pet nutrition across the country.

Waggies promises “science-backed, global-quality” nutrition at value-driven pricing — starting at Rs 199 per kg for the standard range, with a premium “Waggies Pro” variant beginning at Rs 249 per kg. For first-time pet owners, the brand also offers 100-g trial packs priced at Rs 20.

RCPL aims to undercut established players — including brands from Nestlé India, Mars Petcare, Godrej Consumer Products and others — by positioning Waggies 20–50 % cheaper than existing offerings. Distribution will begin across general-trade outlets and semi-urban stores, particularly focusing on Tier-2 and beyond.

The launch comes at a time of accelerating growth in India’s pet-care market: the segment — estimated at US$ 3.5 billion today — is projected to nearly double to around US$ 7 billion by 2028, underpinned by rising pet ownership and a growing preference for premium-quality pet nutrition.
