Marico Limited has entered a strategic research collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Tirupati to pioneer sustainable bioactive extraction technologies aimed at enhancing the nutritional profile and health attributes of edible oils. The partnership blends Marico’s R&D and market capabilities with IIT Tirupati’s academic research excellence and infrastructure to apply green extraction and purification methods for bioactive compounds from natural plant-based sources.
Under the CII-ANRF Prime Minister’s Fellowship for Doctoral Research, a doctoral scholar from IIT Tirupati, jointly mentored by institute faculty and Marico’s technical experts, is driving the development of sustainable processing technologies that could yield healthier edible oil solutions aligned with environmental responsibility. As part of early outcomes, the collaboration has published a review titled “Aqueous Two-Phase Systems: Methods of Binodal Curve Generation and Applications”, and work is underway to finalise a research manuscript with plans to pursue joint patents and further academic publications.
Dr. Shilpa Vora, Chief R&D Officer, Marico, highlighted that innovation has long underpinned the company’s flagship Saffola Oils and that this alliance advances green technology integration in edible oil science, aligning with macro consumer wellness trends and sustainable manufacturing practices. The initiative reinforces Marico’s stated commitment to enhancing nutrition, sustainability, and consumer health outcomes in the edible oils market.
