Bollywood actor Sanya Malhotra has officially entered the wellness and functional beverage space with the launch of her new matcha brand, Bree, in collaboration with Essenzaa Nutrition. Known for her critically acclaimed performances in films such as Dangal and Pagglait, Malhotra now turns entrepreneur, aligning her personal wellness journey with a rapidly growing health-focused market in India.
The launch of Bree reflects a personal transformation for Malhotra, who shared, “I used to be a full-on coffee person, but coffee made me anxious and restless. Matcha helped me break that cycle — it was a game-changer.” Her belief in the product has gone beyond endorsement; she is actively involved in product development and has also made a financial investment in the brand.
According to Siddharth Shah, co-founder, Essenzaa Nutrition, India’s matcha market is currently valued at approximately Rs. 450 crore and is projected to nearly double to Rs. 850 crore within the next five years. “We believe matcha will become as ubiquitous in Indian households as salt or sugar,” Shah noted.
Bree has also secured Rs. 1 crore in pre-seed funding from a group of early-stage investors, positioning the brand for strong early traction in the premium wellness segment. The product aims to serve modern consumers seeking healthier, sustained energy alternatives to traditional caffeinated beverages.
Speaking about her vision for the brand, Malhotra stated, “We’re building Bree for people like me — individuals who want more from their daily rituals. Matcha isn’t just a trend; it’s a lifestyle upgrade.”
With Bree, Sanya Malhotra joins a growing list of Indian celebrities stepping into the wellness industry, bringing authenticity, consumer insight, and entrepreneurial ambition to the table.
