HUL Leads Water Conservation Initiative in India

Must Read

On March 22nd, Hindustan Unilever commemorated World Water Day. Together with its partners,  Hindustan Unilever Foundation (HUF) has played a pivotal role in conserving nearly three trillion liters of water, an amount surpassing the drinking water requirements of our entire population for two years.

This accomplishment underscores the urgent need for more initiatives similar to HUF initiative across our nation.

‘‘Raising awareness about water conservation is of paramount importance, and it is imperative that we rally individuals, businesses, civil society, communities, and policymakers to unite in our efforts to transform India into a water-secure nation,’’ says Sanjiv Mehta, Former chairman of HUL  and current President Commissioner of Unilever, Indonesia.

Addressing water scarcity in India, he posted, 80% of the water in the country is utilized for agricultural purposes. Such scarcity could significantly jeopardize the food security of the nation. Ensuring an adequate supply of potable water not only mitigates the risk of waterborne diseases but also fosters ecological balance, supporting ecosystems and biodiversity essential for human well-being. Moreover, with climate change altering rainfall patterns, water conservation becomes pivotal in building resilience against its impacts. It’s important to note that water scarcity disproportionately affects vulnerable and marginalized communities, highlighting the urgency of collective action in water conservation efforts.
