Nearly 25 years after setting a new benchmark in Indian modern retail, Haiko Supermarket and Haiko Mall in Powai, Mumbai, will soon close operations to make way for a new development.
Conceptualized and brought to life by Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani and Surendra Hiranandani, Haiko was among the earliest pioneers of premium retail in India. At a time when the country was just beginning to define modern retail, Haiko introduced consumers to international standards in product range, hygiene, store layout, and customer service—quickly becoming a reference point for excellence in the industry.
Designed with foresight by Vivek Varma, Haiko was not merely a supermarket, but a model for what aspirational retail could be in India. It helped shape consumer expectations and influenced a generation of retailers who followed.
As the store prepares to close its doors, it leaves behind not just a physical space but a lasting legacy—of innovation, quality, and inspiration. For thousands of customers and industry professionals alike, Haiko remains a defining chapter in India’s retail evolution.
The contribution of Haiko to the Indian retail landscape will continue to be remembered with pride and gratitude.
