FSSAI sets 1st July as annual enforcement date for labelling amendments

Must Read

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has designated 1st July every year as the enforcement date for amendments under the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020. This timeline ensures food business operators (FBOs) have at least 180 days from the date of notification to comply with regulatory changes, simplifying implementation and reducing operational challenges.

The initiative allows FBOs to optimize the use of pre-printed packaging materials, minimizing waste and fostering environmental sustainability. For consumers, it enhances transparency in food labelling, enabling informed decision-making and reinforcing confidence in food safety and quality.

Additionally, the measure allows FBOs to optimize the use of pre-printed packaging materials over an extended period, thereby reducing waste and promoting operational efficiency. This approach aligns with the broader goal of environmental sustainability by minimizing the carbon footprint associated with frequent packaging updates.

By aligning enforcement with the start of the financial year, FSSAI aims to create a predictable compliance framework that benefits both businesses and consumers.
