Food authority asks restaurants to follow food information rules

Must Read

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued guidance for food service establishments regarding the disclosure of essential information on their menus or boards. This includes the calorific value, allergen details, and nutritional information for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items, in accordance with the FSS (Labelling and Display) Regulation 2020.

Any outlet holding a central license for 10 or more locations is required to prominently display this information on their menu cards or boards. Additionally, they must ensure that the nutritional values of the food items are accessible on their website.

Moreover, FSSAI emphasizes that e-commerce food aggregators must obtain necessary information from restaurants and make it available on their platforms wherever applicable. This initiative aims to enhance transparency, avoid unnecessary actions like notice issues, and suspension of license, and most importantly enable consumers to make informed choices about the food they consume.
