Global e-commerce giant Amazon has expanded its quick commerce service, Amazon Now, to select areas in Delhi, following a successful launch in Bengaluru last month. The move comes as part of Amazon’s broader strategy to strengthen its presence in the rapidly growing quick commerce segment.
Abhinav Singh, Vice President of Operations for India and Australia at Amazon, confirmed that the service currently covers a large part of western Delhi. “It’s a very rapidly evolving network,” Singh said, indicating that Amazon is focused on fine-tuning its operations in Delhi and Bengaluru before expanding to other cities across the country.
Launched in June in Bengaluru, Amazon Now has seen encouraging early traction, prompting Amazon to accelerate its expansion plans. The company has already set up over 10 dark stores in Bengaluru. Similar infrastructure is now being scaled up in Delhi, with plans underway to open at least 300 dark stores across Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, and Mumbai by the end of 2025.
Akshay Sahi, Director for Amazon Prime, Deliveries and Returns in India, noted that the initial response to the service has been overwhelmingly positive. “Wherever we’ve kind of launched, we’re seeing tremendous responses from Prime members. And hence you will see this expand fairly quickly,” he said, adding that full-scale operations in both cities are expected soon.
Amazon Now is integrated with Amazon Prime, offering added value for subscribers through benefits such as free deliveries. The service covers a wide range of products including fresh vegetables, groceries, snacks and beverages, meat, beauty and personal care items, and home care essentials.
Amazon’s foray into quick commerce intensifies competition in an already dynamic market, where dedicated players such as Blinkit, Zepto, BigBasket, and Swiggy Instamart are expanding aggressively. E-commerce rivals Flipkart and Ola have also begun exploring this space, adding to the competitive landscape.
As the company ramps up infrastructure and logistics to support ultra-fast deliveries, Amazon’s entry into quick commerce signals its commitment to becoming a significant player in India’s high-speed delivery ecosystem.
