Swiggy Expands ‘Food on Train’ to 115+ Stations, Sees Rise in Festive Meal Gifting

Must Read

Swiggy Limited has announced a major expansion of its Food on Train service, which is now available at over 115 railway stations across 28 states and union territories. The move comes just ahead of the festive season, when the platform is also witnessing a new consumer ritual—families and friends sending hot meals to loved ones through Swiggy’s Order for Others feature.

“Food has been an important part of the overall train travel experience and Swiggy is committed to making this a memorable one,” said Deepak Maloo, VP – Food Strategy, Customer Experience & New Initiatives, Swiggy. “Passengers no longer have to rely only on pantry cars or hurried snack runs at stations for their meals on trains. With Food on Train, Swiggy brings fresh, quality meals right to their seats… And with our Order for Others trend, we are seeing how food is becoming a way for families and friends to share love during journeys, especially as the festive season sets in.”

Traditionally, passengers relied on pantry cars or vendors with limited, often unhygienic options. Swiggy’s offering uses PNR-based logistics to deliver restaurant-quality meals daily between 6:00 am and 11:00 pm, covering student hubs, pilgrimage routes, and tourist destinations—even during short two-minute halts.

As part of the latest rollout, 15 new stations—including Madgaon, Tirupati, Ernakulam Junction, Jodhpur, Sawai Madhopur, and Jalandhar—have been added to the network, enhancing coverage across cultural and travel corridors.

The platform also reports that nearly 14% of orders now come through Order for Others, with lunch being the most popular mealtime. Homestyle options such as vegetarian thalis, rice bowls, fruit plates, and sandwiches are among the top picks, with cities like Vijayawada, Warangal, Salem, Nagpur, Thrissur, and Nellore accounting for nearly 20% of such orders.

To further elevate the festive travel experience, Swiggy is curating regional delicacies on the move—Malvani fish curry along the Konkan line, Kerala Sadya in Kochi, Goan rice plates, Mangalorean gravies, Gujarati thalis, and Rajasthani specials—all delivered directly to passengers’ seats.

Passengers can order by entering their PNR on the Swiggy app, which lists restaurant partners along the train’s route. The platform guarantees timely delivery, ensuring meals are ready at the seat when the train arrives at the station.
