Aditya Birla New Age Hospitality (ABNAH) has launched Supa San, a Japanese izakaya-inspired restaurant in Bandra West, Mumbai. Located on the 14th floor of Mansionz One on Linking Road, the 110-seater outlet marks the brand’s latest expansion in the premium dining and hospitality segment. The concept brings Japanese cuisine, cocktails, music culture and experiential dining together under one roof.

Following the success of its BKC outlet, which was inspired by manga and anime culture, Supa San Bandra takes a different creative direction, drawing inspiration from Japan’s music culture. The restaurant brings together elements of listening bars, vinyl cafés, neighbourhood eateries, record stores and karaoke culture to create an immersive dining experience.

The food menu features more than 100 dishes across categories including small plates, sushi, tempura, robata grills, ramen and larger-format Japanese dishes. Nearly 50% of the menu is vegetarian, reflecting growing consumer demand for plant-based and vegetarian dining options in India’s restaurant industry. Signature offerings include Kamameshi, a traditional Japanese rice preparation cooked in an iron pot, and Mazeman, a broth-free ramen dish. The menu also features dishes such as Hamachi Tiradito, Otoro Tataki and Kinmedai, along with a selection of sushi and robata-grilled dishes.

The beverage programme, titled NOW PLAYING, draws on music themes, with cocktails inspired by Japanese artists, genres and soundtracks. The drinks menu is divided into five sections, allowing guests to select beverages based on flavour profiles and intensity. A dedicated non-alcoholic drinks menu also features Japanese teas, matcha, hojicha and cold brew options.

Supa San’s experience extends beyond food and beverages, with interactive elements including complimentary otōshi, tableside rituals and Omikuji fortune draws presented with the bill. The venue will also host resident DJs, guest performances and music-focused programming, with weekends designed around a more energetic social experience.

Udai Pinnali, CEO, Aditya Birla New Age Hospitality, said, “At ABNAH, we see hospitality as increasingly moving beyond food and service towards creating a deeper cultural connection. With Supa San Bandra, we have taken the Japanese izakaya as a starting point and explored it through one of Japan’s most influential cultural forces – music. The concept comes from a genuine appreciation of Japan – its literature, manga, music, design, and food – but the intention is not to replicate Japan. It is to interpret these cultural codes through a contemporary lens that feels relevant to Mumbai. Every element, from the culinary programme developed by chefs trained in Japanese cuisine to the music, design and programming, is designed to give guests a more considered understanding of the culture and the stories behind it. For us, Supa San is therefore not simply about serving Japanese food. It is about creating a place where food becomes an entry point into a broader cultural experience – one that can resonate with people who know and love Japan, as well as those discovering it for the first time. Bandra, with its openness to culture, creativity and new forms of socialising, felt like the natural setting for this interpretation of contemporary Japan.”

Designed by Patch Design Studio, the restaurant takes cues from Japanese urban culture, incorporating communal dining areas, private seating spaces and an open-air alfresco section. The venue also features The Sound Archive, developed in collaboration with Roland, which showcases synthesisers, drum machines and music equipment associated with various genres. The Culture Shelf brings together collectibles, vinyl records, merchandise and memorabilia inspired by Japanese music culture.

The restaurant also houses a private karaoke room, which will host weekly community-led karaoke sessions and can be booked for private events and celebrations.
