India produces more than 40% of the world’s Spices & contributes over 9% to global spice exports

According to data from the Spices Board of India under the Ministry of Commerce and IndustryGovernment of India, India’s spice exports stood at around $4 billion in 2022-23, with spices like black pepper, turmeric, cumin, cardamom, and red chili being the major exports. India produces more than 40 percent of the world’s spices and contributes over 9 percent to global spice exports.

The 19th edition of FI India and the 7th edition of Propack India expo were organized by Informa Markets in India at the Expo Center in Greater Noida from 3 to 5 September 2025, in which Spices Board of India, under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India has also participated.

Yogesh Mudras, MD, Informa Markets in India, said “India is no longer just the ‘land of spices’ but it is also emerging as the largest spice exporter in the world. India exports more than 60 types of spices to more than 200 countries of the world. This is why India is also called the King of Spices. If we look at the figures, India exports spices worth more than 4.45 billion dollars.”

Speaking at the expo, Dr. Meenakshi Singh, Chief Scientist of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) said “Farmers are also getting great benefits from the export of spices. CSIR is promoting innovation through its 37 research and development laboratories, while FSSAI has made safety testing mandatory. This is the reason why India’s organic food market will reach US $ 1917 million in 2024. It is estimated that it will touch the figure of US $ 10807 million by 2033.”
