Licious implements GST rate cut across ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat portfolio

Must Read

Licious, India’s leading fresh meat and seafood brand, announced that it will fully extend the benefit of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) revision recently approved by the Government of India to its customers. With effect from September 22, the GST rate on Ready-to-Cook (RTC) and Ready-to-Eat (RTE) categories has been reduced from 12% to 5%, delivering an estimated 7% direct benefit to consumers.

The revision will cover the entire portfolio of Licious ready to cook and ready to eat offerings — including marinated meats, curries, grills, kebabs, and ready meals — all of which are made exclusively from fresh, not frozen, meats. Prices reflecting the reduced GST will be available on the Licious app beginning this week.

By implementing the benefits in full, Licious becomes one of the first organised players in the category to align directly with the GST Council’s decision. The company said the revision would encourage broader adoption of branded ready to cook products, which have been witnessing strong double-digit growth as urban households increasingly seek convenience without compromising on taste, quality or freshness.

Founders Abhay Hanjura and Vivek Gupta said, “India’s food sector is entering a critical phase where demand is moving rapidly towards fresh, high-quality convenient products. The GST cut is more than a tax adjustment — it is a structural tailwind that will accelerate formalisation and adoption in this category. With the pass-through of GST benefits, consumers can now access restaurant-grade freshness and convenience at home, typically at 45–50% lower cost than out-of-home premium dining. By passing on the benefit in full, Licious is reinforcing transparency and enabling wider consumer access to fresh, branded food solutions.”

Industry analysts expect the GST cut to provide additional momentum to the segment, lowering entry barriers for consumers and strengthening the shift towards branded, traceable food products. For Licious, which has consistently invested in cold-chain infrastructure, traceability, and culinary innovation, the GST benefit aligns with its long-term strategy of scaling fresh meat and seafood consumption in India.
