Sweet Karam Coffee, a South Indian food brand with a mission to take the “Taste and Tales of South India to the world”, is strengthening its Mumbai growth strategy with a new campaign featuring the city’s iconic dabbawalas.

As the brand continues to deepen its presence in Mumbai, the campaign reflects a broader strategy of building a stronger connection with the city and its diverse audiences. In Mumbai, no cultural icon captures this spirit better than the city’s dabbawalas, the enduring symbols of food, care, reliability and community.

Mumbai is increasingly becoming an important growth engine for the brand, with the company recording double-digit month-on-month growth in the market. Quick-commerce currently contributes approximately 20% of the brand’s Mumbai sales/growth, making it a critical channel for driving discovery, trial and repeat consumption among the city’s convenience-led consumers.

Products such as Andhra Spicy Murukku and Ghee Mysore Pak are witnessing strong demand, demonstrating the opportunity for regional Indian foods to become part of everyday urban consumption beyond their traditional markets.

The campaign draws on the dabbawala’s generations-long role in delivering food across Mumbai and creates a natural connection with Sweet Karam Coffee’s own proposition of bringing familiar Indian foods into contemporary everyday consumption.

Through Janaki Paati, the brand brings the warmth and authenticity of recipes passed down through generations into formats and experiences that resonate with today’s consumers. By associating with an institution that is deeply embedded in Mumbai’s everyday life, the brand aims to build stronger local relevance while using the campaign as a platform to introduce its wider portfolio to new consumers.

Conceptualised and created by Sweet Karam Coffee’s in-house video team, the campaign is designed to connect with Mumbai’s diverse and fast-evolving consumer base while reinforcing Sweet Karam Coffee’s ambition to take traditional Indian foods beyond the perception of being ‘regional’.

“For us, this collaboration is ultimately about the feeling of home. Mumbai has shown us that food rooted in one part of India can find love and belonging far beyond its place of origin. The dabbawalas have carried that feeling across the city for generations, and we felt there was a natural connection between their story and our ambition to make traditional Indian food relevant to contemporary consumers without losing the memories, recipes, and emotions that make it special,” said Anand Bharadwaj, Co-founder, Sweet Karam Coffee.

Commenting on the campaign, Nalini Parthiban, CEO, Sweet Karam Coffee, said, “This campaign is not a standalone brand activation but part of our larger long-term focus on the Mumbai market. This collaboration is one step towards deepening our presence across online and offline channels, including quick commerce, D2C, modern trade, micro EBOs and additional physical retail formats. We are also expanding beyond snacks, with the vision of becoming a holistic South Indian food brand for every occasion – from everyday snacking and pantry staples to beverages, gifting and celebration moments.”

In Maharashtra, Sweet Karam Coffee is currently available across all online channels and is building an offline presence in Mumbai and Pune. The brand currently follows a shop-in-shop strategy and has joined hands with partners like Freshpik and GoFresh to strengthen its offline presence.
