Mumbai-based restaurant chain House of Biryan has raised USD 2 million in a funding round led by Al Siraj Holdings, a Middle Eastern family office, Angel Star Ventures, a US-based fund from Pennsylvania, and various high-net-worth individuals from the United States.

The startup plans to use the capital to scale its business and aims to achieve an annual revenue run rate of Rs 100 crore by December 2025. The brand’s strategy focuses on deepening its offerings within its core categories rather than diversifying into multiple brands.

House of Biryan currently has a 2% annual operating loss but aims to achieve single-digit profitability by December 2024.

Founded in 2022 by chefs Mikhail Shahani and Mohammed Bhol, House of Biryan specializes in biryani and other Mughlai and North Indian cuisines. The restaurant chain started with two cloud kitchens and has rapidly expanded to 12 kitchens across Mumbai and Delhi, with plans to grow its ghost kitchens to 30. The chain currently serves about 40,000 orders a month, with order sizes averaging between Rs 700 and Rs 800. The restaurant chain plans to deepen its offerings in biryani, kebabs, and other Mughlai dishes.

Food Square Co-founders Lalit Jhawar and Mayank Gupta have announced an undisclosed funding round from notable investors, including supermodels Ujjwala Raut and Vartika Singh, designer Payal Singhal, digital creator Simone Khambatta, and luxury fashion house Purple Style Labs, among other high net worth individual angel investors.

Commenting on the infusion of new funds, Lalit Jhawar and Mayank Gupta, Co-founders of Landcraft Retail, stated, “Landcraft Retail is an extension of our farming business, Trueganic by Landcraft Agro. Through Trueganic, we’ve supplied fresh vegetables and fruits to over 200 supermarkets and gourmet stores across West and South India. Expanding into retail was a natural progression for us. With our sights set on amassing more than 200,000 customers, we aim to reach an annual revenue milestone of 300 crore in the next three years and add over 20,000 SKUs across our stores. This is just the beginning, and we remain committed to bringing global food experiences to India. These investments underscore our dedication to advancing and excelling in the retail landscape.”

Landcraft Retail debuted its inaugural store, Food Square, in Bandra West in November 2023. Spanning 25,000 square feet across four floors, Food Square aspires to become the ultimate destination for gourmet connoisseurs. It features an in-house bakery, an exclusive truffle section, an extensive selection of over 350 cheese varieties, and a café. Additionally, Food Square offers a spice mill, a salad bar, and a specialty pet store, aiming to provide a world-class shopping experience focused on offline retail.

Having successfully served over 30,000 customers in the first quarter since its launch, Food Square is poised for continued growth. With plans to gradually expand its presence in Mumbai and beyond, the brand is committed to extending its reach and enhancing its offerings.

Fresh From Farm, a platform bridging fresh fruit demand for both B2B and B2C markets, has secured a significant milestone by raising USD 2 million in a Pre-Series A funding round. Inflection Point Ventures led this investment, with notable participation from seasoned investor Ashish Kacholia, known for his success in public markets.

The newly acquired capital will be strategically allocated towards expanding the team, enhancing technological infrastructure, and diversifying product offerings. These initiatives are pivotal in driving the company’s growth trajectory and solidifying its position in the market.

Fresh From Farm distinguishes itself as an online platform dedicated to sourcing and delivering fresh produce. With an unwavering commitment to quality and convenience, the company employs a proprietary tech interface to forecast and establish a demand-supply equilibrium, thereby minimizing wastage of perishable goods.Operating a facility spanning 20,000 square feet in New Delhi, Fresh From Farm leverages cutting-edge technology to uphold stringent quality standards and meet market demands effectively. This robust infrastructure underscores the company’s position as a prominent industry player in the fresh produce sector, poised for sustained growth and success.

A key aspect of Fresh From Farm’s business model involves empowering fruit vendors through mini-franchises. The platform takes charge of sourcing, grading, and handling fruits, allowing vendors to focus solely on sales activities. In terms of growth targets, Fresh From Farm aims to achieve an annual recurring revenue of Rs. 100 crores by the end of the year. Bolstered by a robust revenue stream of Rs. 40 crores and supported by a dedicated team of 50 professionals, the company ensures seamless operations and unwavering customer satisfaction. Moreover, Fresh From Farm’s performance has yielded remarkable 400+ returns for its early investors, further solidifying its position in the fresh produce sector.

Rohit Nagdewani, Founder, Fresh From Farm, says, “Our vision of becoming India’s largest Fresh Fruits company aligns with our efforts to expand aggressively in New Delhi/ NCR. While currently delivering at over 300+ locations every day, our key focus is wastage reduction and efficient demand consolidation. This has allowed our retailer partners to earn an average of 29% which is more than working through traditional channels. On the growth front, we are aiming to touch Rs 100 crore ARR by the end of this calendar year.”

Cremica Foods Ltd, a brand known for its assortment of condiments like mayonnaise and ketchup, intends to secure INR 500 crore in funding, a move that would propel its valuation to INR 2,000 crore. Akshay Bector, the Chairman and Managing Director of Cremica Foods Ltd, disclosed that the company intends to dilute 20-30 percent of its equity to achieve this objective.

The infusion of capital will lead to several strategic initiatives. Firstly, Cremica plans to bolster its operational efficiencies and reinforce its working capital reserves. Additionally, the brand aims to diversify its product portfolio by venturing into new categories such as frozen items, specialty beverages, and pickles.

Despite encountering regulatory hurdles that prevented fundraising efforts in the previous fiscal year, Cremica remains undeterred in its pursuit. The brand plans to adopt a hybrid retail and HoReCa (Hotel/Restaurant/Café) strategy across all its business verticals. Beginning with the HoReCa sector for new product launches, the company intends to gradually transition towards retail distribution for its entire novel range.

At present, Cremica operates a manufacturing unit within Una’s Cremica Foodpark dedicated to sauces production. The brand recently expanded its manufacturing capabilities by acquiring an additional unit, where it plans to install a new production line, further enhancing its sauce manufacturing capacity.

In tandem with its manufacturing expansion, Cremica aims to broaden its distribution network substantially. The goal is to escalate from 400 distributors and 20,000 retail touchpoints to 700 distributors and 40,000 retail touchpoints, effectively doubling its earlier reach.

With an annual revenue of Rs 320 crore for FY 22-23, Cremica is poised for significant growth with the infusion of fresh capital. The potential funding will catalyze the brand’s expansion endeavors, propelling it toward operational efficiency and a substantial uptick in valuation.
