CHUK, the flagship brand of Pakka Limited, a manufacturer of compostable food packaging, has forged an alliance with MahaKumbh Mela Trust to serve as the official tableware supplier for the event. The partnership aims to provide sustainable and eco-friendly tableware products at the MahaKumbh Mela, held in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh (UP).

CHUK’s compostable tableware, made of bagasse, will be exclusively distributed to restaurants participating in government programs during one of the world’s largest religious gatherings. This will support the massive logistical requirements of serving devotees while maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and eco-friendliness.

The partnership between CHUK and MahaKumbh Mela Trust resonates with the UP government’s overarching goal to celebrate the religious gathering with a focus on cleanliness and mitigating plastic waste. This collaboration also echoes the UP govt’s RACE drive (Reducing Plastic and Achieving Clean Environment), an initiative launched to spread the concept of plastic-free communities. Moreover, CHUK’s involvement in Ram Mandir’s inauguration highlights the brand’s alignment with the government’s efforts to promote eco-friendly alternatives and make the earth cleaner.

Being the official tableware partner, CHUK remains committed to the quality of the products being distributed at the MahaKumbh Mela. Each piece of tableware undergoes rigorous heat resistance testing, where it is subjected to 100-degree hot oil and water to ensure a spill-free experience. Products are then meticulously examined for structural integrity, with skilled quality control specialists checking for even the smallest physical imperfections.

Jagdeep Hira, India Business Head at Pakka Limited said about the partnership “We are immensely grateful to be a part of the MahaKumbh Mela, the world’s largest religious gathering. This sacred gathering holds a special place in the hearts of millions, and we feel truly fortunate to contribute to its success with our eco-friendly solutions. This partnership reflects our commitment to blending spiritual values with environmental responsibility, and we are humbled to be part of this congregation and contributing towards creating a cleaner earth.”

CHUK has been selected as the L1 (most preferred) vendor for providing eco-friendly tableware during the MahaKumbh Mela. The deal has been inked at Rs. 1.75 crore with potential expansion to Rs. 2.5 crore, depending on the event’s requirements.

CHUK, the flagship brand of Pakka, has launched a global expansion plan, marking its first strategic move into seven international markets. Currently, CHUK is supplying their products to the markets in New York, Houston, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Singapore, UAE, Adelaide & Perth (Australia), Netherlands, and the UK.

In parallel with CHUK’s expansion, Pakka is also strengthening its operations in Guatemala, with a $250 million food packaging solutions plant, supporting local economies and indigenous traditions. This initiative aligns with the company’s broader vision of responsible global growth, exemplified by its successful CSR programs around its headquarters in Ayodhya.

From its humble beginning in the city of Ayodhya in 2017, CHUK has emerged to offer compostable packaging solutions in the country. It started with a vision of contributing towards a cleaner planet. This brand has transformed agricultural residue into a solution to reduce the use of single-use tableware made of non-renewable materials. CHUK uses sugarcane residue, also known as bagasse, in high-quality compostable tableware and food delivery products. Today, it is a trusted name in the country with leading food brands and Quick Service Restaurants (QSRs) like Haldirams, Taco Bell, Chai Point, and more choosing CHUK’s eco-friendly packaging solutions for their daily operations. Following its exceptional success in the Indian market where the overall biodegradable tableware market is projected to grow at 6.0% CAGR from 2024 to 2030, CHUK has now marked its simultaneous foray into the 7 key international markets with the vision to replicate its regenerative model across the world.

Jagdeep Hira, India Business Head, Pakka, said, “This international expansion represents a proud moment for India, as we take our compostable food packaging solutions from Ayodhya to the global stage. There is a huge demand for eco-friendly food packaging options in the US, UAE, Canada and other countries. This expansion will help us meet the needs of environmentally conscious consumers. Our research indicates that the HoReCa sector and retail establishments across the globe are willing to accept innovative, sustainable packaging solutions that don’t compromise on quality or functionality. CHUK’s products are uniquely positioned to meet this demand.”

CHUK, the flagship brand of Pakka, hosted ‘Tales on Plates,’ a unique Children’s Day celebration combining creative activities with environmental education for the children of Niveda Foundation in Noida. The initiative showcased how compostability can be fun and educational for young minds.

The interactive program featured various engaging activities designed to spark creativity while instilling environmental consciousness. Children participated in an artistic plate-painting competition and enjoyed storytelling sessions that encouraged imagination and self-expression. What set this celebration apart was the fun and candid conversations while teaching compostability. The refreshments were served in CHUK compostable containers, which the children later used in a hands-on composting activity.

Sarita Upadhyay, spokesperson at Pakka Foundation said, “We sought to create a warm and engaging experience for the children at the Niveda Foundation by introducing them to the concept of compostability. Our initiative, titled “Tales on Plates,” was developed in collaboration with CHUK and the Pakka Foundation to nurture their creativity and curiosity. Watching the children as they joyfully painted, imagined, and embraced new ideas was truly heartwarming. By integrating our compostable containers into their activities, we hope to inspire a deep and lasting sense of environmental stewardship within them. This initiative embodies our heartfelt commitment to building a sustainable future while supporting the communities we serve.”

The event concluded with the distribution of special student kits which included planters, pens and pencils and a variety of seeds that can be planted to all participants, ensuring that learning continued beyond the day’s activities.

The Niveda Foundation, an independent organization committed to societal upliftment—from women’s empowerment in India to children’s welfare—recently partnered with CHUK to educate children on compostability through engaging activities using CHUK products.

Ravi Subramanian, Trustee at Niveda Foundation said, “Our collaboration with Chuk and Pakka Foundation has allowed us to not only advance sustainable practices but also touch lives and uplift communities in ways that matter. This initiative is proof that true change happens when we come together for a common purpose”

In a groundbreaking moment at the grand Maha Pooja ceremony in Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir on Jan. 22, Prime Minister Modi embraced a conscious choice, opting for CHUK’s sustainable tableware to offer prasad to Ram Lalla. This eco-friendly decision isn’t just a mere act but a profound commitment to environmental stewardship, echoing the sacredness of the occasion — a beautiful fusion of tradition and sustainability.

Pakka Limited, the maker of CHUK’s biodegradable tableware and a pioneer in compostable packaging solutions, has stitched up a collaboration with the Ram Mandir Trust. Their mission? To weave sustainability into the very fabric of this historic event in Ayodhya and extend its impact far beyond the temple’s walls.

This collaboration actively works towards sustainable practices, strategically aiming to cut down on waste and contribute to Ayodhya’s environmental well-being. It aligns with the broader initiative led by the Uttar Pradesh Government, with a clear goal of transitioning Ayodhya into a plastic-free zone.

Through the incorporation of CHUK’s biodegradable tableware, the Ayodhya Mandir Trust becomes a living testament to eco-friendly practices, beckoning others to join the mission of sustainable alternatives.

CHUK’s eco-friendly and sustainability efforts go beyond the temple setting, reaching out to support Ayodhya’s local community. This aligns with Pakka’s broader commitment to creating a cleaner, greener planet for future generations. In this narrative of tradition, sustainability, and thoughtful choices, CHUK and Pakka play a central role, leaving a lasting impact on those who value both tradition and environmental responsibility.
