Emami Agrotech Limited (EAL), the branded foods arm of Emami Group, has entered India’s fast-growing packaged snacking market with the launch of WeMe, a digital-first brand tailored to the evolving tastes and on-the-go lifestyles of today’s consumers.

The launch marks a strategic expansion of Emami Agrotech’s food portfolio beyond edible oils and pantry staples under its Emami Healthy & Tasty umbrella. With WeMe, the company is creating a dedicated snacking platform focused on innovation, premium offerings, and digital-first consumer engagement as it strengthens its presence in the broader FMCG landscape.

India’s snacking market is undergoing a significant transformation, driven by shifting consumer preferences and changing lifestyles. While taste and affordability remain essential, today’s consumers—particularly Gen Z and Millennials—are increasingly seeking snacks that combine convenience, indulgence, quality, and authenticity. These younger cohorts are embracing all-day snacking across work, travel, entertainment, and social occasions, while the rapid growth of quick commerce is accelerating product discovery and making a wider range of snack brands accessible to consumers across the country.

Built around the philosophy “Togetherness Always Tastes Better,” WeMe enters the market with a portfolio across three categories—Choco Hazelnut Spread, featuring India’s first portable chiplet-format offering; Jhuri Aloo Bhaja, bringing the popular Eastern Indian snack into the organised packaged foods segment; and Potato Chips, available in flavours tailored to evolving consumer tastes.

Speaking on the launch, Aditya Vardhan Agarwal, Director, Emami Group, said, “At Emami Agrotech, we have always believed food is about more than satisfying hunger—it’s about earning consumer trust through quality, relevance and innovation. Having built a strong foods portfolio under Healthy & Tasty, WeMe marks our strategic entry into one of India’s fastest-growing food categories. Backed by a planned investment of nearly Rs. 750 crore, we aim to build WeMe into a Rs. 1,000 crore brand over the next five to seven years while creating more than 1,000 direct and nearly 3,000 indirect jobs. This marks an important milestone in our vision of transforming Emami Agrotech into a comprehensive food company.”

Manish Goenka, Director, Emami Group, added, “As consumers increasingly seek products that combine taste, convenience and innovation, WeMe reflects our confidence in the long-term growth potential of India’s snacking market. Supported by our trusted food credentials and deep understanding of Indian consumers, we see WeMe as a long-term growth platform for our foods business, with a strong pipeline of products planned across multiple snacking categories.”

Positioned as a digital-first brand, WeMe will leverage creator-led content, social media and quick commerce to connect with younger consumers. The brand will debut across leading quick-commerce platforms in Kolkata, Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad, ensuring immediate availability in key urban markets. Alongside its quick-commerce launch, WeMe will begin expanding through general trade, starting with Kolkata before gradually entering other cities.

Highlighting the brand’s consumer-centric approach, Vidula Agarwal, Director, Emami Group, said, “The new generation doesn’t simply buy products—they discover them through conversations, creators and communities. That’s why WeMe has been built as a digital-first brand where content, commerce and consumer engagement come together seamlessly. This distribution strategy will enable us to make WeMe instantly accessible across key cities while allowing us to continuously learn from consumers, innovate faster and respond to emerging trends. We want WeMe to become much more than a snacking brand—we want it to become part of the everyday moments that bring people together.”

Parag Milk Foods Ltd. (PMFL), one of India’s leading dairy FMCG companies, has announced an expansion of the company’s cheese manufacturing capacity from 60 metric tonnes per day (MT/day) to 120 MT/day. This was decided by the Board of Directors who perceived the capacity enhancement as a part of PMFL’s long-term growth strategy in order to meet the rising demand for its cheese and whey protein portfolio. This will also unlock the new growth opportunities across the dairy value chain, involving an estimated capital expenditure of Rs. 105 Cr to be funded from mix of internal accruals and debt. The expansion is likely to complete by FY28.

Under its flagship brand Go Cheese, PMFL has built one of India’s leading cheese portfolios, commanding an estimated 35% market share. The company is also a key supplier to institutional customers, including hotels, restaurants and catering (HoReCa) businesses, while maintaining a strong presence across general trade, modern trade, e-commerce and quick commerce channels. The expansion comes at a time when India’s cheese market is witnessing robust growth.

The Go Cheese portfolio includes mozzarella, processed cheese, cheddar, cheese slices, spreads, cheese cubes, cheese sauces, cream cheese, pizza cheese and a range of speciality chees solutions serving both retail and food service customers. Catering to the premium segment, its flagship Pride of Cows brand follows a unique farm-to-home, single-origin model, delivering high-quality fresh dairy products to discerning consumers.

Commenting on the development, Rahul Kumar Srivastava, Chief Operating Officer, Parag Milk Foods Ltd, said, “Cheese is one of the key growth drivers for Parag Milk Foods and a strategic pillar of our value-added products portfolio. This Board approval marks another important step in our phased roadmap towards 120 MT per day and reflects our confidence in the long-term potential of the category. The additional capacity enhances manufacturing efficiency, strengthen our ability to meet growing customer demand and support future product innovation.”

PMFL’s diversified portfolio spans everyday dairy staples such as ghee, dahi, paneer and liquid milk under the Gowardhan brand, alongside value-added offerings including cheese, UHT milk, buttermilk, lassi and flavoured milk under the Go brand. Beyond its core dairy portfolio, PMFL has established a strong presence in the fast-growing sports nutrition segment through Avvatar, India’s first 100% vegetarian whey protein brand.

The company is focused on strengthening its position as a global nutrition provider while building one of India’s leading health- and nutrition-focused dairy FMCG businesses through continuous innovation and high-quality products.

DSM Fresh Foods Ltd., the company behind direct-to-consumer meat and seafood brand Zappfresh, has expanded its frozen vegetarian convenience food brand, Meevaa Foods, to Mumbai and Bengaluru, marking the next phase of its growth strategy. The complete portfolio of 12 Meevaa products is available across select serviceable pin codes in both cities through the Zappfresh app and website.

To commemorate Zappfresh’s 11th anniversary, the company launched its ’11:11′ campaign, offering every Meevaa product at Rs. 11 for 11 days. The campaign generated 343,000 orders across Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru while bringing in more than 2,400 first-time customers, highlighting the increasing demand for high-protein, ready-to-cook vegetarian snacks and convenience foods among urban consumers.

The expansion leverages Zappfresh’s existing operations and cold-chain infrastructure in Mumbai and Bengaluru, enabling Meevaa Foods to scale efficiently while maintaining product quality, freshness and reliable last-mile delivery. The company has planned an initial fulfilment capacity of more than 2,000 orders per city every month and expects the two markets to contribute 50–60% of Meevaa’s direct-to-consumer business over the long term.

Commenting on the expansion Priya Agarwaal, Director, DSM Fresh Foods Ltd. said, “Mumbai and Bengaluru were a natural choice for Meevaa Foods as Zappfresh has already established a strong operational and consumer presence in both markets. Today’s consumers are looking for food that delivers convenience without compromising on taste, nutrition or authenticity. With Meevaa, we have brought the rich, familiar flavours of North Indian cuisine into a modern, ready-to-cook format that fits seamlessly into fast-paced urban lifestyles. We also see a growing shift towards protein-rich snacking, with consumers becoming more conscious about what they eat while expecting convenience at the same time. The response to our launch reaffirms our belief that premium frozen vegetarian foods are no longer a niche category but an emerging mainstream choice for India’s metro consumers. This expansion is another step towards making quality, high-protein convenience foods accessible to more households across the country.”

The company’s early performance in Delhi NCR underscores the brand’s growing traction. Since launching in the region earlier this year, Meevaa Foods has recorded a repeat purchase rate of 55%, reflecting strong customer acceptance. During the anniversary campaign, overall orders rose by nearly 40%, while the customer base expanded by 30%. Among the top-selling products were Tandoori Paneer Power Momos, Veg Noodle Spring Rolls, Paneer Smash Patty and Paneer Samosa.

Following its entry into Mumbai and Bengaluru, Meevaa Foods plans to deepen its presence in existing markets through new consumer engagement initiatives and product discovery campaigns. The company is also expanding its international footprint by exporting to markets such as Saudi Arabia, Canada and the United Kingdom, aligning with its strategy of taking Indian convenience foods to global consumers.

Going forward, DSM Fresh Foods will continue to introduce regional and festive campaigns while increasing Meevaa’s availability through quick commerce platforms. The company aims to strengthen its reach across Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru as it capitalises on the growing demand for premium convenience foods in India.

India’s fast-growing RTE and RTC category is being rewritten as health-conscious consumers push brands to rethink ingredients, innovation and value.

India is witnessing a promising surge in the Ready-to-Eat (RTE) and Ready-to-Cook (RTC) market. As per a report from MarkNTel Advisors, a market research company, the India RTC food market size was valued at $1.41 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow from $2.14 billion in 2026 to $8.21 billion by 2032, exhibiting a CAGR of 25.12% during 2026-32. The report further stated that by product type, the frozen ready-to-cook foods segment represented a significant share of about 38% in the India Ready-to-Cook food market in 2026.

Once dominated by instant meals and frozen snacks, the category is increasingly evolving into a space where consumers are looking for products that offer the convenience of packaged food without compromising on ingredient quality, taste or nutritional value.

At the same time, consumers are becoming more selective about what goes into their meals. Concerns around preservatives, artificial ingredients and highly processed foods are prompting a shift toward cleaner labels and products that feel closer to homemade food. As a result, brands are rethinking product development, focusing on shorter ingredient lists, preservative-free formulations, high-protein offerings and recipes that align with evolving wellness goals.

Leading brands such as MTR Foods, ITC Limited, Licious, McCain Foods, and iD Fresh Food are increasingly focusing on products that combine convenience, nutrition, and quality to meet evolving consumer expectations. As lifestyles become busier and health awareness continues to rise, companies are re-imagining product portfolios, ingredient choices, and manufacturing processes to deliver offerings that align with modern consumption patterns.

The market is also witnessing a growing emphasis on transparency, cleaner ingredient labels, and trust-driven brand communication. These shifts are creating new opportunities across the convenience food landscape, positioning health-focused innovation and consumer-centric product development as key drivers of growth in India’s expanding ready-to-eat and ready-to-cook segments.

Convenience Alone is No Longer Enough

While speed and ease of preparation were once the primary purchase drivers, today’s consumers are increasingly evaluating products based on ingredient quality, nutritional value and authenticity. Growing awareness around health, wellness and food labels has made shoppers more selective about what they bring into their homes. Industry players say the evolution of consumer preferences is reshaping innovation across the RTE and RTC categories.

Consumers now expect packaged foods to not only save time but also align with their broader health and lifestyle goals. “Consumers are evolving, and so are their expectations. MTR was among the early brands to recognise the growing need for convenient food solutions, introducing offerings such as the MTR 3-Minute Range. Today, consumers are looking beyond convenience alone. They seek products that combine convenience with quality, permissibility, authenticity, and great taste,” shares Anupam Nair, Chief Marketing and Growth Officer, MTR Foods.

According to Nair, younger urban consumers are increasingly seeking products that fit fast-paced modern lifestyles while continuing to offer familiar flavours and trusted food traditions. “Particularly among younger urban consumers, there is a growing preference for solutions that fit modern lifestyles while continuing to deliver the trusted flavours and food heritage that MTR is known for,” he adds.

The shift is also being felt by brands focused on everyday staples and meal solutions. Ashish Khandelwal, Managing Director, BL Agro, the parent company of Nourish, a brand that makes RTC/RTE products like Poha, Vermicelli, Dalia, Macaroni and more, believes consumers are becoming more conscious of what goes into their food and are increasingly associating convenience with trust.

“Consumers today want convenience but are also paying closer attention to ingredients and nutrition. We are witnessing that consumers are no longer just buying convenience; they are buying trust,” says Khandelwal. He noted that the company is focusing on cleaner formulations and reducing reliance on artificial preservatives while maintaining taste and consistency. “Our approach starts with the product and not the process. For all our products, we ask ourselves one fundamental question: How can we achieve the same level of taste and freshness with minimum and cleaner inputs?” states Ashish.

This consumer shift is encouraging brands to rethink product development, with healthier convenience increasingly emerging as a key battleground in India’s fast-growing RTE and RTC market.

Nutrition-Led Innovation Gains Momentum

For Amazonika Mundi, a brand focused on plant-based and health-oriented food products that also serve RTC foods, changing consumer expectations are reshaping the way new products are developed. Richa Khandelwal, Founder and Managing Director, Leads Brand Connect, which works closely with Amazonika Mundi on brand strategy and communications, says consumers today are approaching ingredient lists very differently from just a few years ago.

“Five years ago, the ingredient list was marketing real estate. Today, it is due diligence. That single shift has redrawn the rules of innovation in our category, and most brands haven’t fully acknowledged it yet,” she says. This change in consumer behaviour has fundamentally influenced Amazonika Mundi’s innovation process. Rather than starting with flavour profiles, the company begins product development by identifying a specific nutritional need.

“Most product development in the RTE and RTC category begins with a flavour brief. Ours begins with a nutritional brief,” she notes. The company is increasingly focusing on products that offer measurable nutritional benefits. “Our Veggie Kofta carries 18.67gm of dietary fibre and 10.12gm of protein per serving. The Burger patties and balls deliver up to 16.43gm of fibre and 15.81gm of protein. These are not garnishes on the pack — they are the reason the product exists,” Richa adds.

The Future of Convenience Is Getting Healthier

As awareness around wellness, preventive health and lifestyle diseases continues to rise, products that combine convenience with cleaner labels, higher nutritional value and greater transparency are gaining traction. For brands, this represents a broader shift in consumer priorities. Nair explains that convenience will continue to be the category’s biggest growth engine, but evolving consumer awareness is adding new dimensions to purchase decisions.

At the same time, he further notes that consumers are becoming more interested in understanding what goes into their food. “While health-focused and clean-label attributes are likely to become increasingly important considerations for consumers, they will complement rather than replace the core demand for convenience,” he states. According to him, the products that succeed in the future will be those that strike the right balance between convenience, taste, quality and transparency.

For Ashish, the shift towards healthy convenience is no longer a future trend but a present-day reality. “It has already arrived in India, especially in urban areas, and is slowly making its way to Tier 2 and 3 markets,” he says. He attributes this shift to a combination of factors, including greater health awareness after the pandemic, rising exposure to global wellness trends and growing concerns around lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, obesity and hypertension. “Brands that will win are the ones that will build their products around healthy eating,” he adds.

Richa believes healthy convenience has already moved beyond the wellness niche and entered the mainstream. She elucidates that consumers today increasingly view food as an important contributor to their overall well-being rather than simply a source of sustenance. She also points to growing demand from working professionals, young families, flexitarians and traditional consumers who are seeking convenient products that do not feel overly processed.

“What we are witnessing is not the rise of a niche but the redefinition of the default,” Richa notes. She also sees significant opportunities for brands through format expansion, foodservice partnerships and consumer education.

As India’s RTE and RTC markets evolve, the bigger question is what kind of convenience they are willing to embrace. Increasingly, the answer appears to be products that save time while offering cleaner ingredients, stronger nutrition credentials and greater transparency. In that sense, healthy convenience is not replacing convenience; it is redefining it.

The fundamentals of storage are simple but critical. California walnuts should be kept cold and away from strong smelling ingredients throughout the entire supply chain to preserve freshness.

From supporting brain health and nourishing the heart to improve sleep quality, walnuts are nature’s nutrient-rich superfood. With their distinctive brain-like shape and rich, earthy flavour, walnuts have long been associated with nourishment and vitality across cultures for more than 7,000 years. Yet, what makes these truly remarkable is the delicate balance they carry: rich in natural oils and nutrients, they are both powerful and perishable. In today’s increasingly conscious consumption landscape, the conversation is no longer limited to why walnuts should be consumed, but how they must be handled and stored to preserve their integrity. Crunchy, versatile, and packed with goodness, walnuts bring exceptional flavor and nutrition together. Because when it comes to walnuts—especially California Walnuts—quality is not just grown; it should be carefully protected at every stage.

Walnuts: Nature’s Nutrient Powerhouse

Walnuts are among the most nutrient-dense tree nuts, offering a rare combination of taste and functional health benefits. They are the only nuts significantly rich in plant-based omega-3 ALA (alpha-linolenic acid), known to support heart health and reduce inflammation, which bodies need but can get from food. In addition, walnuts have a positive effect on gut health and provide dietary fibre, along with essential nutrients such as magnesium, Vitamin B6, copper, and manganese. Scientific studies have increasingly linked regular walnut consumption to improved cognitive function, metabolic health, and overall wellbeing—positioning walnuts as a daily nutritional essential for modern lifestyles.

California Walnuts: Unmatched in Quality and Care

At the heart of the global walnut industry California’s family walnut growers, many of which are multi-generational family farms solely dedicated to growing world-class walnuts, play a significant role in supplying walnuts worldwide. Grown in California’s fertile Central valley, these walnuts are globally recognised for their rich flavour, and consistent quality. Globally, the walnut market continues to expand at a steady CAGR of 5–6%, driven by snacking replacing meals and rising awareness around plant-based nutrition. Within this landscape, California Walnuts have established a premium position, backed by stringent food safety standards, sustainable cultivation practices, and reliable supply. Serving markets worldwide, including India, California Walnuts have established a significant presence in the imported walnut category.

Sending the Right Message

In India’s high-temperature and variable humidity environment, maintaining walnut freshness requires a more mindful approach across the entire value chain. A common misconception is that walnuts can be stored like other dry fruits at room temperature. In reality, walnuts are a semi-fresh fruit and their high oil content makes them sensitive to heat, air, and moisture—factors that can lead to oxidation, resulting in bitterness, loss of crunch.

The fundamentals of storage are simple but critical: walnuts should be kept in airtight containers and refrigerated to preserve freshness. Shelled walnuts, being more exposed, require even greater care, while avoiding strong odors is essential as walnuts can easily absorb surrounding smells. Once in the consumer’s home, freezing is an effective option for longer shelf life.

Freshness & Shelf Life Factors

Walnut quality and shelf life depend on three key factors:

Product characteristics and packaging

Storage and distribution environment

Transportation conditions

Adopting a cold-chain mindset is essential in markets like India. Advanced packaging solutions such as nitrogen flushing, vacuum sealing, and resealable pouches can significantly slow oxidation. Equally important is clear consumer communication—simple cues like ‘Refrigerate after opening,’ supported by on-pack messaging and digital engagement, can play a key role in shifting consumer behaviour so that their nutritional investment remain fresh increasing repeat purchase.

Best Practices for Storage

Walnuts should ideally be stored at 0–10°C with low humidity (<65%) in oxygen-controlled or vacuum-sealed packaging. Even at retail, cooler and shaded environments significantly extend shelf life.

In-Store Temperature & Handling Discipline

Retailers must treat walnuts as a temperature-sensitive product rather than a standard dry fruit.

Avoid open bins and loose display

Maintain cool, air-conditioned display areas

Limit exposure to direct light

Ensure stock rotation

Moisture & Hygiene Control

Maintaining clean and dry conditions is critical to prevent contamination risks.

Ensure dry storage environments

Implement strong pest control

Use food-grade packaging

Comply with FSSAI norms

Packaging and Transportation Logistics

Walnuts require temperature-controlled handling even before they reach store shelves. During high-temperature months, refrigerated transport is essential to prevent quality degradation. A just-in-time inventory approach further helps minimise warehouse time and maintain freshness. Closer coordination between importers, distributors, and retailers—supported by data sharing on inventory cycles and product feedback—can significantly improve quality consistency across the supply chain.

Looking ahead, education-led marketing will play a defining role. Pamela Graviet, Vice President Integrated Marketing, California Walnut Commission notes, “Promotions , packaging, and consumer education should actively communicate freshness, quality, and the importance of correct storage to enhance consumer enjoyment. We are addressing this through a focused awareness effort that integrates both physical and digital touchpoints.”

Preserving Quality, Building Trust

The objective is clear: to reposition walnuts from a seasonal indulgence to an all-season essential—one that consistently delivers on taste, freshness, and nutrition when stored right. As the category grows, embedding storage awareness into the purchase journey becomes critical, not just to protect product integrity but to enhance the overall consumer experience. With California Walnuts readily available in markets like India, the real opportunity lies in preserving the quality consumers expect. From harvest to consumption, proper storage plays a crucial role in maintaining freshness, flavor, and texture. After all, a walnut’s true value is experienced in its taste, and ensuring that every bite delivers the intended sensory experience is essential for driving consumer satisfaction and repeat purchases.

Taali, a new-age Indian snacking brand, announced an initiative in the snacking category with Pokémon, bringing together one of India’s fast-growing snacking brands with one of the world’s most popular entertainment brands. While details remain under wraps, the initiative signals a shared ambition to bring a new layer of entertainment into a category that is rapidly evolving with changing consumer preferences.

Backed by Y Combinator investments, Brand Taali reflects the founders Aarti and Aditya Kaji’s vision towards rapidly building a strong presence of this snack, across modern retail and quick commerce platforms. The popular snacks are already leading the online consumers to re-imagine familiar favourites towards making an alternative choice. The founders’ approach to building a new-age Indian snacking brand, while bringing a globally informed perspective to product innovation, shaped in part, by their educational backgrounds at Harvard Business School and the University of Pennsylvania.

India’s snacking consumers are increasingly seeking products that deliver on both taste and better-for-you ingredients, while gravitating toward experiences that feel personal, playful, and engaging. Across industries, brands are moving beyond traditional launches to build deeper emotional connections with consumers, and food is no exception to this shift.

“Snacking today is no longer just about the product. It is about the experience, the emotion, and the cultural relevance it brings,” expressed Aditya Kaji, Co-founder of Taali. “Pokémon is a brand that so many of us grew up with, and this initiative allows us to bring that connection into a modern snacking context. We are excited to build something that feels both familiar and entirely new.”

Pokémon, with its cross-generational appeal and global recognition, is one of the world’s largest and most iconic entertainment brands. Taali has built its identity around creating snacks rooted in taste, quality, and modern sensibilities. Together, the two aim to create a new kind of snacking experience, the one that brings together familiarity and innovation while resonating across age groups.

“We are always looking for meaningful ways to connect with our fans across categories and markets,” said Susumu Fukunaga, Corporate Officer, The Pokémon Company. “Working with Taali allows us to explore the snacking space with a team that shares our focus on quality, innovation, and creating engaging experiences for consumers.”

As India moves toward becoming one of the world’s largest consumer markets, ideas that combine strong brands, cultural relevance, and product innovation are likely to define the next wave of growth. For now, the stage has been set, and all eyes are on what Taali and Pokémon will bring to market.

Noice, a premium food brand, dedicated to reviving true-to-taste recipes with small-batch craftsmanship, today launched a 15-flavour artisanal dessert range spanning across slow-churned ice creams, gelato and kulfis. Launched just in time for the summer season, the range is available on Instamart across major metros.

Noice’s summer desserts range from familiar Indian flavours and globally loved classics, re imagined with real ingredients and authentic preparation techniques. Think Rose Gulkand Ice Cream with rose petals, or Filter Coffee Ice Cream that turns a South Indian everyday ritual into a creamy indulgence and real coconuts blended with tender coconut chunks

Commenting on the launch, Royan Mody, Vice President – Noice, said: “Most ice creams today are engineered for speed, which usually means adding air. Air makes it lighter, but it also takes away from what you’re actually tasting. We chose to go the other way – slow churned, less air, and more density. It’s a harder process, but it gives you a texture and richness that holds up. From there, it was about making sure the ingredients could live up to that process like using real gulkand, filter coffee from the South, whole pistachios, coconut with actual bite. For us, the process has to respect the ingredient, and the ingredient has to justify the process. That’s the bar we set.”

The portfolio blends traditional Indian flavours with universally loved indulgences, making it relevant across generations, from everyday cravings to shared family moments. The quick-commerce-first brand’s range is now available on Instamart.
