Mast Banarasi Paan, one of India’s largest organised tobacco-free paan café chains, has crossed the milestone of 400 outlets across the country and is targeting 600 outlets over the next two years. As part of its next phase of growth, the company is exploring strategic growth capital to support expansion, strengthen its technology and supply chain capabilities, and enhance its franchise ecosystem.

As India’s paan market evolves, the company sees a significant opportunity to bring greater standardisation, consistency and accessibility to one of the country’s oldest culinary traditions while re imagining it for modern consumers. The milestone comes amid growing consumer demand for organised, hygienic and experience-led food service formats across traditionally unorganised categories. Against this backdrop, Mast Banarasi Paan sees a significant opportunity to bring greater standardisation, consistency and accessibility to one of India’s oldest culinary traditions.

India’s paan market is estimated to be worth over Rs. 5,000 crore, yet remains overwhelmingly fragmented, with organised retail accounting for only a small share of the category. The proposed capital will support geographical expansion, technology infrastructure, central sourcing, supply chain capabilities and brand-building initiatives, while deepening the company’s presence across metropolitan as well as Tier II and Tier III markets.

Today, with more than 400 outlets across 20+ states and over 320 cities, Mast Banarasi Paan has built one of the country’s largest organised tobacco-free paan retail networks. The company is also evaluating opportunities in international markets with significant Indian diaspora populations as it charts its next phase of growth. The expansion comes at a time when Banarasi Paan is receiving renewed policy recognition. The Uttar Pradesh Government recently included Banarasi Paan under its One District One Cuisine (ODOC) initiative, aimed at promoting iconic regional cuisines through branding, entrepreneurship and market access.

At the core of the company’s proposition is its commitment to offering 100% tobacco-free paan. By separating the culinary experience of paan from tobacco consumption, Mast Banarasi Paan seeks to present the traditional Indian mouth freshener in a modern, hygienic and family-friendly format.

Commenting on the milestone, Panchanand Thakur, Founder & CEO, Mast Banarasi Paan, said, “Paan has long been an integral part of India’s culinary and cultural heritage, but the category has remained largely unorganised. We see a growing preference for trusted brands that offer quality, consistency and hygiene while preserving authenticity. Our focus is on expanding responsibly, strengthening our operating capabilities and making the Banarasi paan experience accessible to consumers across the country.”

Alongside traditional favourites such as meetha and sada paan, the company continues to expand its portfolio with contemporary offerings to cater to evolving consumer preferences. Its franchise-led model has also enabled entrepreneurs across Tier I, II and III cities to participate in organised food retail through standardised operating systems, technology-enabled processes and central sourcing.

Mast Banarasi Paan is tapping into the growing consumer preference for organised, hygienic and experience-led food service formats across traditionally unorganised categories. Looking ahead, Mast Banarasi Paan will continue to focus on disciplined expansion, operational excellence, product innovation and strengthening its franchise partner ecosystem as it scales its presence across existing and new markets.

Costa Coffee’s retail footprint in India contracted for the first time in more than five years, with the British coffee chain ending FY26 with 198 stores, down from 220 outlets a year earlier. Despite the reduction in its café network, the brand reported a 7% year-on-year increase in revenue.

According to the latest annual report of Devyani International Limited (DIL), Costa Coffee’s exclusive franchise partner in India, the chain recorded a net reduction of 22 stores during FY26. The decline comes after several years of consistent expansion in India’s organised café market.

Costa Coffee’s revenue from operations rose to Rs 212.5 crore in FY26 from Rs 198.5 crore in FY25. The increase came despite a smaller store network, contrasting with FY25 when the brand posted 30.76% revenue growth alongside rapid outlet expansion.

The coffee chain has witnessed significant growth over the past five years, expanding from 44 stores in FY21 to 55 in FY22 before more than doubling its network to 112 outlets in FY23. It further increased its footprint to 179 stores in FY24 and 220 in FY25 before declining to 198 stores in FY26.

While Devyani International did not disclose the reasons behind the reduction in Costa Coffee outlets, the company said it adopted “a more disciplined and selective approach to expansion” across its brand portfolio during the financial year.

Costa Coffee continues to be identified as one of Devyani International’s key growth drivers alongside KFC and Pizza Hut. The brand remains focused on India’s premium out-of-home coffee segment, with Gen Z and millennial consumers continuing to be central to its growth strategy.

The company has also been refreshing its menu to align with evolving consumer preferences in India’s organised café market. The reduction in stores during FY26 suggests a shift towards a more measured expansion strategy after adding 176 outlets between FY21 and FY25.

India also remains a key market in Costa Coffee’s long-term global strategy. In April 2025, Costa Coffee Global CEO Philippe Schaillee identified India as one of the company’s top 20 markets globally and said it is expected to become one of Costa Coffee’s top five markets in the coming years.

Mad Over Parathas and Pakodas (MOPP) has entered the Bengaluru market, marking its first expansion beyond Delhi NCR as the food brand embarks on a broader pan-India growth journey backed by Kouzina Food Tech.

Leveraging Kouzina’s cloud kitchen network, technology platform and operational infrastructure, MOPP plans to expand into more cities across the country.

Founded in Delhi NCR, MOPP has built its menu around two of India’s most popular comfort foods—Parathas and Pakodas. Its offerings include a variety of parathas, pakodas and meal combinations designed primarily for the food delivery segment. The brand has also developed recipes and packaging aimed at preserving the texture and quality of its food during delivery, supporting its expansion through Kouzina’s cloud kitchen ecosystem.

The Bengaluru launch marks the beginning of MOPP’s next phase of growth as it joins Kouzina’s portfolio of more than 20 food brands. Kouzina currently operates through a network of over 350 kitchen partners across more than 125 cities.

Gautam Balijepalli, Co-Founder, Kouzina Food Tech, said, “Mad Over Parathas and Pakodas has already earned deep customer love in Delhi NCR through its exceptional food quality and differentiated product experience. Our goal is to preserve everything customers love about the brand while making it accessible to millions more consumers through Kouzina’s technology platform, operational excellence, and nationwide kitchen network. We believe MOPP has all the ingredients to become one of India’s leading comfort food brands.”

Geetika Anand Gupta, Co-Founder, MOPP Foods, said, “Mad Over Parathas and Pakodas was created with a simple vision to elevate India’s everyday comfort food into a premium, trusted, and delivery-friendly experience without compromising on authenticity. Watching a brand that was nurtured and loved by customers across Delhi NCR begin its national journey is an emotional milestone for us. With Kouzina’s technology, operational expertise, and scale, we are confident that millions more customers across India will discover that traditional Indian food can be every bit as innovative, consistent, and exciting as any global cuisine.”

Operating on an asset-light model, Kouzina enables brands to scale through its network of kitchen partners instead of relying solely on standalone physical outlets. MOPP is expected to leverage this infrastructure to accelerate its presence beyond Bengaluru and strengthen its footprint across India.

Eat Truck Love (ETL), a concept by Azimuth Business on Wheels (ABOW), has unveiled its 4th zone in NCR. The announcement marks a step in ETL’s mission to organise India’s Rs 5 lakh crore street food economy into India’s first branded, hygienic outdoor food format.

ETL is designed as an open-air format that seeks to retain the accessibility and character of street food while providing a more structured consumer experience. Each zone is designed with city-specific food brands, purpose-built trucks, kiosks and trailers, and a permanent, festival-like outdoor experience.

ETL zones are currently live at Central 50 (Noida), Alpha 1 Metro Station (Greater Noida), Bennett University (Greater Noida), and now launching District 9 (Sector 33) this August. ((with more zones planned across NCR and beyond.))

The company said its model can be introduced at commercial developments, institutional campuses, transit locations and other high-footfall urban spaces within shorter development timelines than permanent brick-and-mortar food destinations.

“India has never had a clean, organised format for outdoor food that is also genuinely exciting. Food courts tried to do it indoors and lost the soul of the street. ETL is our answer to that gap — infrastructure-first, experience-led, and built to scale across every Indian city that deserves better than a thela and a broken footpath,” said Puneet Anand, Founder & CEO, Azimuth Business on Wheels.

Global premium casual dining chain German Doner Kebab (GDK) is set to make its India debut with the launch of its first restaurant in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, in August 2026, marking the beginning of an ambitious long-term expansion strategy in the country.

The brand is entering the Indian market through GBC India, which plans to develop a network of 450 restaurants over the next decade, focusing on major metropolitan cities and high-growth urban markets.

With more than 170 restaurants worldwide, German Doner Kebab has built its reputation on premium doner kebabs prepared using lean meats, fresh ingredients, handmade sauces and elevated preparation standards. The company believes India’s growing demand for protein-rich meals, premium dining experiences and international cuisines presents a strong opportunity for the brand’s expansion.

Commenting on the launch, Ginny Sahni, Managing Director, GBC India, said, “GBC has always been about quality, innovation, and connecting with people through food. Having worked with German Doner Kebab UK for over a decade, we understand their standards and culture intimately. Launching GDK in India is a natural next step bringing freshness, flavour, and a global dining experience to our local audience.”

Vikrant Tomer, CEO, GBC India, added, “The future of food belongs to brands that understand people beyond the plate. Today’s consumers move seamlessly between fitness, fashion, music, content, and culture, and the brands they choose need to reflect those lifestyles. India is seeing a growing appreciation for protein-rich meals and premium dining experiences, making this the perfect moment for GDK to enter the market. We believe the brand is uniquely positioned to connect with a generation that values both quality and experience.”

The Hyderabad outlet will serve as the brand’s flagship restaurant and the first step in a phased nationwide rollout as GDK looks to establish its presence in India’s premium casual dining segment.

Blue Tokai Coffee Roasters, an Indian specialty coffee company, has made its GCC debut through a strategic partnership with Ambrosia Foods, opening its first regional café at BurJuman Mall in Dubai, UAE.

Blue Tokai’s regional expansion is being spearheaded by Ambrosia Foods, a GCC-focussed food and beverage platform dedicated to launching and scaling innovative consumer brands across the region. The partnership combines Blue Tokai’s expertise in sourcing, roasting and serving exceptional Indian coffee with Ambrosia Foods’ deep market knowledge and operational capabilities to drive long-term growth across the GCC.

Blue Tokai becomes the fourth brand to join Ambrosia Foods’ portfolio. Alongside India’s leading fresh-to-order biryani brand Biryani By Kilo, Lebanese heritage brand Furn Beaino, and American diner concept Mr Brown, the platform continues to build one of the region’s fastest-growing multi-brand F&B businesses focused on premium, scalable consumer concepts.

“Blue Tokai is a landmark addition to our growing GCC portfolio and a brand that perfectly reflects Ambrosia Foods’ vision of bringing proven, category-defining concepts to the region and building them for long-term success. Indian brands are increasingly finding strong resonance across the GCC, and Blue Tokai is exceptionally well positioned to introduce more consumers to the quality, craftsmanship and diversity of India’s specialty coffee.”, said Vishwaroop Narain, Executive Chairman, Ambrosia Foods.

Following the launch of its first Dubai cafe, Ambrosia Foods plans to significantly expand Blue Tokai’s footprint across the GCC, with over 10 locations planned over the next few years.

Today, the brand operates more than 250 cafés and three roasteries across India, works directly with over 80 coffee farms, and maintains an international presence in Tokyo, Japan.

“India has an extraordinary coffee heritage, yet its potential as a world-class specialty coffee origin is only beginning to gain global recognition. For more than a decade, Blue Tokai has focused on strengthening the connection between coffee producers and consumers while creating spaces where people can discover the craft and stories behind every cup. Expanding into the GCC marks an important milestone in our journey as we introduce Indian specialty coffee to new audiences. The region’s vibrant café culture and appreciation for thoughtfully crafted experiences make it a natural next step in our growth,” said Shivam Shahi, Co-Founder and COO, Blue Tokai Coffee Roasters.
